Started in the cattle business in April 2012 with the idea to have a couple of cows to raise a couple of steers annually for our own consumption. In typical “Todd” fashion it has grown to 240 animals in the summer of 2019. The vision has always been to raise the highest quality registered black Angus cattle for the purpose of grass fed beef. Using our farm grown high protein grass/alfalfa, superior organic minerals, clean well water and superior facilities has allowed this to happen. Generally the finished animals have obtained superior marbling and a nice 1/2″-1″ coat of fat on the hide to protect taste and tenderness.

All grass fed beef animals and sired, born and raised on our farm. All feed is grown on our farm All animals are treated humanely, tame to people and receive the best of care not limited to daily brushing and such.

Antibiotics/Hormones: We feed absolutely no antibiotics and do not use growth enhancing hormones of any sort. We do use antibiotics when all natural methods of treatment for an illness have been exhausted and the animals life is jeopardy. God made these medications for this reason and we will use them every time. We do observe the manufacturer recommended with drawl times when using antibiotics. Example: Antibiotic recommends after treatment to not slaughter the animal for a determined amount of time allowing the antibiotic to clear out of the animals system – we observe that time frame. Animals given any antibiotics are separated from our non-antibiotically treated animals and sold to our customers after full disclosure and acceptance of the treated animal.

Facilities/Care: All animals have year round access to bedded barns, clean well water and hay/grass. In the wet times of the year the animals are fed on large cement slabs with wind breaks so they don’t have to wade thru the mud to eat, I don’t like to stand in the mud to eat and they don’t either! Our handling facilities are state of the art and are designed for animal comfort while protecting us. If the animal has a “ugly” side you will surely see it when you want them to do something they don’t want to do. LOL

Calving: When the weather permits the cows will have their calves out in the pasture which works the best as they are in their “element”. When the weather is colder than 40, windy or rainy they are brought into our calving barn. The calving barn is setup with individual 12’x 12′ bedded pens for their birthing comfort all the while being monitored by our camera system to make sure everything is going smooth without interference. When cold the calves are allowed to be clean by the mother and nurse then they are put in a heat house in which they will be keep at 70 degrees for 2-4 hours to let them dry out – then they get a calf coat for a couple of days till they are up to 100%. At birth the calves are giving injection able vitamins, have their naval dipped, weighted and ear tagged.

Hay/Grass: Currently we have 275 acres of lush grass/alfalfa pastures for the animals to graze in the summer months. In the winter months they are given hay from our farm which is higher is protein. By having the higher protein it allows us to let our calves nurse from their mothers an additional 2 months over the standard 6 months without the mother loosing body condition (getting skinny). The cow has enough energy to nurse her calf and feed the unborn calf in the womb. This extra nursing time adds to the “superior grass fed beef” tasting experience. While we are not a certified organic farm we do our best to adhere to the rules of an organic farm.

If you have any questions at all about the farm or the animals feel free to contact me anytime!
